UCLID students have collected a remarkable set of competitive awards over the past several months:

  • Amirhosein Sarchami received the prestigious Dean’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship (April 2026).
  • Saaras Pakanati received the Merchant M. Eugene Scholarship (April 2026). Earlier, in December 2025, he became a two-time Armstrong Fellow, an unusual distinction for an undergraduate researcher.
  • Ayaaz Yasin won the competitive University Research Council (URC) fellowship (February 2026) and a Graduate Student Government Research Fellowship Award (March 2026).
  • Emmett Looman received the Robert Dorsey Scholarship from the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

These awards span every career stage in the lab, from undergraduate researchers to PhD candidates finishing their dissertations. Congratulations to all!

Students who miss one step, such as setting up an energy balance or following a stability argument, rarely say so in the moment. By the time it shows up on an exam, several weeks of material have piled on top of it. This summer I built two tools to close that gap. Both are freely available and live on the Teaching page.
