Outstanding Student Presentation Award at ASME IMECE 2024

Congratulations to Unmeelan Chakrabarti, who won an Outstanding Student Presentation Award at ASME IMECE 2024 for his talk “Investigating the sensitivity of inequal evaporation and condensation coefficients during liquid vapor phase change using data from Constrained Vapor Bubble (CVB) experiments conducted in the International Space Station (ISS).”
Most phase change models assume that the evaporation and condensation coefficients at a liquid–vapor interface are equal. Unmeelan’s work uses microgravity data from the ISS to test that assumption and to measure how much the predicted heat transfer changes when it is relaxed. The results were later published in Nanoscale and Microscale Thermophysical Engineering.
It has been a busy fall for Unmeelan: a few weeks later, on 12/04/2024, he defended his PhD proposal and advanced to candidacy.
