ASTFE 2026: thin film stability talks and an Early Career Researcher Award

At the 11th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference, UCLID presented two talks on the dynamics of evaporating thin films:
- “Modeling Multiscale Oscillations in Thin Liquid Films”
- “Stability and Contact Line Dynamics of Evaporating Thin Liquid Films”
Thin films near a contact line carry a large share of the heat transfer during evaporation, and whether they stay stable or rupture determines dryout in heat pipes and residue or defects when surfaces are dried. These talks describe our progress toward predicting when and how these films destabilize (more on this thrust).
I was also honored to receive the ASTFE Early Career Researcher Award for contributions to thermal-fluids engineering.
It was also a big month for student fellowships: Ayaaz received a Graduate Student Government Research Fellowship Award, following his University Research Council fellowship in February.
